Winter Season

As you all know it is winter. In other countries winter is a time to celebrate christmas and enjoy the snow. In New Zealand winter is a time to suffer the cold and get flu or the cold being sick on school days. Winter is a time in New Zealand is to get to school early and jump into the classroom before they lock the door on you. All ready at the start of the winter I have been sick for 8 times with the flu and the cold. ITS HORRIBLE! But the best time in NZ is the spring not too hot or too cold. So we have to wait 2 whole terms so we can get warm again. It is so annoying when you're coming to school they actually tell you what the temperature is on the intercom example, when you just walked in the classroom you hands like ice and you go and sit at your desk then your hear "ITS 5 degrees celsius!" Then were all moaning and groaning saying "SHUT UP YOU'RE ONLY MAKING IT WORSE!" Any way as they say don't let the flu get you but it will probably get you any way so good luck in the winter.

A Random Story

Today our teacher gave us a task to write a 200 word story. The story had to have 3 words that the teacher wrote in categories. There were lots of categories but I chose one of them.
The words are Campfire, a scream, and a small lie that gets bigger and bigger.

Enjoy my story.

One day we were all sitting around the campfire as a class singing happy songs. Once we were sent to fix our tents there was a big scream out of no where and there was a sound of a pig from a distance. It was tense the girl was shouting, screaming and chanting all about and we were wondering where it could be. The forest was really big but we were searching and searching but we find nothing.

We walked back to the flaring light of the campfire and we had a big group talk. While the group talk was on there was a small lie that was roaming about and it was getting bigger and bigger and they said someone was trampled by pigs. People said it was true but people said it was nothing. I didn’t know what to do or what not. The person might be stuck. Then. SCREAMING

We follow the noise. Grabbing our torches we scramble through the forest making sure our waypoint was near. We made sure to not go too far, so when we couldn’t see the flare of the campfire we would go back. We searched and searched but saw nothing and we crawled back like cave men back to the campfire.

When we get back we see a boy and a girl laughing. We kept on saying why were they laughing and then they said, you’ve fallen in our trap!

Primary School Science Week

Today we went to the science room to do some science experiments for Primary School Science Week. My favourite experiment was called Ring in my ears. Here is what it is and how to do it.

Ring in my ears

Equipment:
- spoon
- 45cm cut string
- edge of a table

Method:

Step 1: Tie the string around the middle of the spoon and make sure the string is the same on both sides.
Step 2: Make two loops and each end of the strings and making sure you can put your index finger in the loops that you made.
Step 3: Put your index finger in one of the loops and your other index finger in the other loop.
Step 4: Put your fingers in your ears with the string hanging down with the spoon.
Step 5: Bang the spoon back and forwards on the edge of the table and hear what happens.

What is happening?
What's happening is the vibration of the spoon is ringing in to your ears and the vibration makes the sound of a bell or a doorbell.

Here is a picture what it will look like

GeoGussr

Today our class played a game called GeoGuessr. GeoGuessr is a game when you have a picture from google maps in the centre and you have a map on the top right hand side like this.

What you have to do for this game is on the centre picture you have to guess what country it is in and then on the right hand picture which is a map, you have to click where the place is.

When you make your guess you will come up with a page like this and it says how far you are from the actual place is. At the end of the sentence you see how much points you got. The aim of the game is to get the most points.

Tips:
Some tips I have is that you look at the scenery and you look and power lines and signs. Also when you make your decision you should zoom in to make it accurate. Hopefully these tips will help you with the game.

Here is the link for the game.

Wiki Game (Speed Race)

The Wiki Game is a game that uses Wikipedia and they turned it into a speed race. When you start the game you will come across this on your page:

On the top in blue is the word you have that you start with.

The bottom word is the word you have to find through wikipedia.

When you click on the word you will come up with the wiki page about your word. You have to use your brain to scroll through the words. Think quickly because when I was playing it people got it in 1 to 6 clicks. Here are some examples Melanism to Manga, Hair to paper and many more random stuff.
Hopefully this will help you win the game.

How to do the Estuary Run

We are beginning the Estuary Run next week.
So we have teach the new year sevens how to do it.

Equipment:

- Sports shoes
- P.E. gear
- Lots of energy

Method:

Step one: Start jogging around the field until you get to the main gate of the school.

Step two: Turn right and jog along the path.

Step three: When you get to a crossing a teacher will be standing there to look for cars, when he says carefully jog across the crossing.

Step four: Keep running straight on Grace Road for 1 minute.

Step five: When you come near the end of Grace Road there will be a teacher there waiting when they say its ok you may carefully jog across.

Step six: Once you turn the corner BE CAREFUL you must jog slowly and look out for cars coming out of roads.

Step seven: Once you get to the bottom of the hill turn right and at the end of that road you should see the start of the Estuary.

Step eight: When you get to the start there is a bridge, when you pass the bridge you must take one step at a time and be careful because this is when slips and slides happen so stay in the center of the path and JOG!

Step nine: Once you get to the end of the Estuary there will be a big hill, it is best to run up it otherwise it will be horrible and long to walk up.

Step ten: Just run to where we meet.

Click cards and STAR cards

At Tauranga Intermediate School we have a new system called the click cards. Click cards are when in a day you have been good in one whole day. At the end of the day your teacher will give you 1 click but it is only the people who are not on the board.

If you get in trouble you get a verbal warning then if you do it again then you get your name on the board. If you do it again you get a cross by your name and you don't get a click on your card. If your name is on the board the teacher chooses if you get a click or not.

If you get all 40 clicks then you will get a band. You can get 3 bands If you really try hard.

They also changed the STARS card system. If you have been caught well in school you get a STARS card. When you get a STARS card you write your name on it and you go to the school library. Once you get to the library there will be boxes with different colours on them which means the houses in our school. You put your STARS card in your house box then you wait for you house hui and the leader teacher reads all the names in the box and you get a voucher. Once the leader teacher reads them they put the card back in the box and at the end of the term you can be into win one of 10 STARS jackets. Then at the end of the year Mrs Colville picks one student from the STARS box and she picks one person to win a bike.

So that is the new system for our school.

Here are the click cards and the STARS cards
