Transformations : Maths

In our class we have finished learning about translations. Here is a mind map about what I have learnt.

Internets Forum

TASK:
What is an internet forum?
It is a group discussion site where people can talk about a certain topic.

Have you ever posted on a forum? Explain.
Yes I have posted on a forum. I had to post on a forum about how do I do something or how something went wrong. I mostly use this when I am using minecraft because multiple survival servers have grieving (People destroying or wrecking objects) and people have to report it to the moderators on a forum to fix something up.

What is a thread?
A thread is when you are talking or making decisions to each other on a forum or on any site like youtube.

What is the forum administrator’s job?
To check if there's appropriate language and if it is a suitable topic. They also have to check if people are spamming or annoying people in the thread. They also need to solve the problems or block people from their thread or entire forum. They alos need to promote or remove members from the form as well as to run the forum.

What are some different names for forums?
Meetings, debate, discussion, conference.

Find a forum on and provide a link for:

Minecraft : http://www.minecraftforum.net/
Rugby : http://www.therugbyforum.com/
a topic you are interested in
Technology : http://www.tech-forums.net/forums/

What do you think the rules for posting on a forum are?
Must be appropriate and relevant to the subject, no spamming or annoying other members of the thread. Don't budge into people lives and stick to the subject.

What do you think the consequences are for breaking the forum rules?
Get removed from the forum and have no more requests to join the forum.

TASK 2:
- Go to our class forum. Register using your school email.
-Post a response to the thread topic and vote on the poll.

-Read the posts of 3 others and reply to their posts.

Transformations : Enlargement

What 2 things do you always need to say to describe an enlargement?
The centre of enlargement and how many times the object has been enlarged.
What does centre of enlargement mean?
The centre of enlargement is a dot or a cross where the object expands from.
What is a scale factor?
The scale factor says how many times the object has been expanded or shrank.
Explain how to work out the scale factor on a grid, and with no grid. Use diagrams you have screenshot from the myimaths lesson.
For the ones on the grid you count one of the sides of the shape. Now if your scale factor is 2 you will double the squares and if the scale factor was three you will triple the sqaures and so on and so on.

For the ones with no grid you use a mirror to measure from one edge to the centre of enlargement and then you double triple or minus the amount of the scale factor same as the one with he grid.
What happens to the angle sizes in the corner of the shape when you enlarge it?
The angles stay the same because it makes no difference if you enlarge it. Also if you were to enlarge a triangle the angle still needs to add up to 180.

Life Ed Summary

TASK:
Write a full summary of Life Ed: From the Shadows.
This should be at least ¾ of a page.
Use subheadings.

Remember to include some of Michael’s awesome stories about actual people affected by drugs.

Drugs through puberty:
Teenagers have a high risk of taking drugs in teen hood but more risky if they take it going through puberty because you are climbing the 7 rungs of the ladder. The 7 rungs of the ladder means the seven years through puberty the bottom meaning childhood and the top meaning adulthood. When you take drugs then it will effect your body and will change your short term memory and your future thinking which will change the way you look or do in the future.

Drugs:
There are different types of drugs that we learnt in Life Ed but most of the drugs we learnt of were illegal drugs. Illegal drugs are placed into classes Class C being dangerous but not as dangerous. Class B being 2nd dangerous class and Class A being the most dangerous and effective class. Class A is very dangerous, thats why the police fines you a lot of money and/or a lot of time in prison to keep you safe. Most of Michael's stories he told us, most of the people were 13 and started having marijuana and then from that drug they went onto many other drugs.

Alcohol:
There are the three most likely drinks of alcohol that they sell everywhere. Beer, Wine and Spirits. Beer has the least amount of alcohol in it, Wine has the average amount of alcohol in it and Spirit has a lot of alcohol in it thats why at bars they put it in small glasses. There is a certain amount that Spirits, Wine and Beer should be poured into the glass to remove the alcohol from your body. Spirits should be poured into small glasses. Wine should be able to fit 3/4 of a wine glass and Beer should be able to fit the top of a tall glass. If you pour it to the right amount, the alcohol should disappear from your body less than 1 hour.

Multiplication using lines

To make this work you have to draw the lines so my equation is 21x42. What I do is I draw 2 lines then leave a space then I draw 1 line. That makes 21. Then I draw 4 lines going the other direction then leave a space and then draw 2 lines. Now we draw curved lines to separate the numbers. Now lets count the first dots. I counted 8 dots then the middle ones, I counted 8 dots and the last ones I counted 2 dots. Put it together and you get 21x42=882√

Hope you learnt a new trick!

Advertiesment

Do you think you are the smartest thing in the world?
Can you see into the future?
Can you read minds?
I guess not. But an amazing website can!
It is called Akinator!
Akin what what? Akinator!
It reads your lungs, I mean brain and it hooks it into the computer to see what character you are thinking about.

How does it work?
Well it asks lots of questions about what is the character's gender is and what are the character's personalities and all sorts. Where do I go? On the internet! (pause) I mean, go now on en.akinator.com thats en.a k i n a t o r.com you will regret it if you don't get it! Go now!

Caution it only works if
you are thinking about a character
 in a digital movie
and it only guesses indie movies or english movies.
 Batteries not included.\

Transformation: Translations

Task:
Explain what a translation is.
Explain how a vector works. What does it look like? What does the top number indicate? What does the bottom number indicate?
Give a real life example of when translation is used.

Translation in maths means moving a 2d shape around a grid. Translation in maths has something called a vector and a vector tells you how to move a shape up and down and left and right. A vector has brackets either side and the two numbers are stacked. The top number says the number has to go right or left. How you know this positive means right and negative means left. The bottom number means up or down. Same thing positive means up negative means down. We use lots of translation in real life like, a flying fox, elevator, a car and all sorts if they move up or down or left or right.

45 minute Inquiry - Is the book dissapering

Is the book disappearing? Will books be in museums and expensive? Is it good to transfer to ebooks or to stick with books? Our environment is changing and which one of these would you live with? radiation and nuclear power spreading around the world or billions of trees cut every year making oxygen harder to find.

Apparently a third of our class are already starting to use ebooks, now just imagine the whole world which use ebooks, iPads or other technological devices that have books. What would happen to our schools. When I started primary we all used books and our teachers read books to us. Will that happen in the future? Already parents and teaching their children by tablet than books. Don't you remember that your mum or dad came up to you with a book and say cow goes moo sheep goes baa but now you have a tablet to do everything for you.

So is it better to change to ebooks and tablets? Some people say yes because you can interact and do interesting things with that you cannot do with books.
