Transformations : Maths

In our class we have finished learning about translations. Here is a mind map about what I have learnt.

Internets Forum

TASK:
What is an internet forum?
It is a group discussion site where people can talk about a certain topic.

Have you ever posted on a forum? Explain.
Yes I have posted on a forum. I had to post on a forum about how do I do something or how something went wrong. I mostly use this when I am using minecraft because multiple survival servers have grieving (People destroying or wrecking objects) and people have to report it to the moderators on a forum to fix something up.

What is a thread?
A thread is when you are talking or making decisions to each other on a forum or on any site like youtube.

What is the forum administrator’s job?
To check if there's appropriate language and if it is a suitable topic. They also have to check if people are spamming or annoying people in the thread. They also need to solve the problems or block people from their thread or entire forum. They alos need to promote or remove members from the form as well as to run the forum.

What are some different names for forums?
Meetings, debate, discussion, conference.

Find a forum on and provide a link for:

Minecraft : http://www.minecraftforum.net/
Rugby : http://www.therugbyforum.com/
a topic you are interested in
Technology : http://www.tech-forums.net/forums/

What do you think the rules for posting on a forum are?
Must be appropriate and relevant to the subject, no spamming or annoying other members of the thread. Don't budge into people lives and stick to the subject.

What do you think the consequences are for breaking the forum rules?
Get removed from the forum and have no more requests to join the forum.

TASK 2:
- Go to our class forum. Register using your school email.
-Post a response to the thread topic and vote on the poll.

-Read the posts of 3 others and reply to their posts.

Transformations : Enlargement

What 2 things do you always need to say to describe an enlargement?
The centre of enlargement and how many times the object has been enlarged.
What does centre of enlargement mean?
The centre of enlargement is a dot or a cross where the object expands from.
What is a scale factor?
The scale factor says how many times the object has been expanded or shrank.
Explain how to work out the scale factor on a grid, and with no grid. Use diagrams you have screenshot from the myimaths lesson.
For the ones on the grid you count one of the sides of the shape. Now if your scale factor is 2 you will double the squares and if the scale factor was three you will triple the sqaures and so on and so on.

For the ones with no grid you use a mirror to measure from one edge to the centre of enlargement and then you double triple or minus the amount of the scale factor same as the one with he grid.
What happens to the angle sizes in the corner of the shape when you enlarge it?
The angles stay the same because it makes no difference if you enlarge it. Also if you were to enlarge a triangle the angle still needs to add up to 180.

Life Ed Summary

TASK:
Write a full summary of Life Ed: From the Shadows.
This should be at least ¾ of a page.
Use subheadings.

Remember to include some of Michael’s awesome stories about actual people affected by drugs.

Drugs through puberty:
Teenagers have a high risk of taking drugs in teen hood but more risky if they take it going through puberty because you are climbing the 7 rungs of the ladder. The 7 rungs of the ladder means the seven years through puberty the bottom meaning childhood and the top meaning adulthood. When you take drugs then it will effect your body and will change your short term memory and your future thinking which will change the way you look or do in the future.

Drugs:
There are different types of drugs that we learnt in Life Ed but most of the drugs we learnt of were illegal drugs. Illegal drugs are placed into classes Class C being dangerous but not as dangerous. Class B being 2nd dangerous class and Class A being the most dangerous and effective class. Class A is very dangerous, thats why the police fines you a lot of money and/or a lot of time in prison to keep you safe. Most of Michael's stories he told us, most of the people were 13 and started having marijuana and then from that drug they went onto many other drugs.

Alcohol:
There are the three most likely drinks of alcohol that they sell everywhere. Beer, Wine and Spirits. Beer has the least amount of alcohol in it, Wine has the average amount of alcohol in it and Spirit has a lot of alcohol in it thats why at bars they put it in small glasses. There is a certain amount that Spirits, Wine and Beer should be poured into the glass to remove the alcohol from your body. Spirits should be poured into small glasses. Wine should be able to fit 3/4 of a wine glass and Beer should be able to fit the top of a tall glass. If you pour it to the right amount, the alcohol should disappear from your body less than 1 hour.

Multiplication using lines

To make this work you have to draw the lines so my equation is 21x42. What I do is I draw 2 lines then leave a space then I draw 1 line. That makes 21. Then I draw 4 lines going the other direction then leave a space and then draw 2 lines. Now we draw curved lines to separate the numbers. Now lets count the first dots. I counted 8 dots then the middle ones, I counted 8 dots and the last ones I counted 2 dots. Put it together and you get 21x42=882√

Hope you learnt a new trick!

Advertiesment

Do you think you are the smartest thing in the world?
Can you see into the future?
Can you read minds?
I guess not. But an amazing website can!
It is called Akinator!
Akin what what? Akinator!
It reads your lungs, I mean brain and it hooks it into the computer to see what character you are thinking about.

How does it work?
Well it asks lots of questions about what is the character's gender is and what are the character's personalities and all sorts. Where do I go? On the internet! (pause) I mean, go now on en.akinator.com thats en.a k i n a t o r.com you will regret it if you don't get it! Go now!

Caution it only works if
you are thinking about a character
 in a digital movie
and it only guesses indie movies or english movies.
 Batteries not included.\

Transformation: Translations

Task:
Explain what a translation is.
Explain how a vector works. What does it look like? What does the top number indicate? What does the bottom number indicate?
Give a real life example of when translation is used.

Translation in maths means moving a 2d shape around a grid. Translation in maths has something called a vector and a vector tells you how to move a shape up and down and left and right. A vector has brackets either side and the two numbers are stacked. The top number says the number has to go right or left. How you know this positive means right and negative means left. The bottom number means up or down. Same thing positive means up negative means down. We use lots of translation in real life like, a flying fox, elevator, a car and all sorts if they move up or down or left or right.

45 minute Inquiry - Is the book dissapering

Is the book disappearing? Will books be in museums and expensive? Is it good to transfer to ebooks or to stick with books? Our environment is changing and which one of these would you live with? radiation and nuclear power spreading around the world or billions of trees cut every year making oxygen harder to find.

Apparently a third of our class are already starting to use ebooks, now just imagine the whole world which use ebooks, iPads or other technological devices that have books. What would happen to our schools. When I started primary we all used books and our teachers read books to us. Will that happen in the future? Already parents and teaching their children by tablet than books. Don't you remember that your mum or dad came up to you with a book and say cow goes moo sheep goes baa but now you have a tablet to do everything for you.

So is it better to change to ebooks and tablets? Some people say yes because you can interact and do interesting things with that you cannot do with books.

Punctuating missing 3

"Mum where are my favourite socks?" I asked yelling for help.
"And where are my Tuesday undies?" asked Dad searching through his drawers.
"You know I have to wear them today just wear mondays undies, no one is going to know," replied Mum.
"No ones going to know you say I'm going to know and to wear mondays undies pfft that would be idiotic!" dad answered back with a streak in his voice.

This was only the beginning of our family disaster. For the next few weeks things were starting to disappear and fast! With dad losing his tuesday undies and me losing my favourite socks, Isaac then lost his favourite bow tie, while mum then lost her favorite dress.
"We thought we were going mental its not like they could just hop up and run away!" said Isaac.
Mum suggested that we recap our steps
"When was the last time you had your items," she said.
We all replied.
"Before washing day was the last time we had them so maybe its the washing machine that's caused all this drama," Mum said with a glimpse a hope in her eyes. We checked the washing machine there was… nothing with nothing to prove. I decided to put a Go-Pro in the machine to watch it in action to see if there was something suspicious really happening inside, what I didn’t realise was that the washing machine would take my Go-Pro too
"AHHH ITS GONE!" I yelled at the top of my voice. "What are we going to do?"
"Lets just give up!" Mum said to me.
"Fine if that’s the best idea," I moaned.

A few weeks later Isaac had dropped his toy car behind the washing machine and as we were looking for it, a pair of undies popped up out of the blue just sitting there.
"Mum, look," I said with a big grin on my face.
"Who would have guessed!"
We both stood there smiling.

Punctuating a story #2

"Morning class," greeted Miss Green.
It was an ordinary day and everyone was sitting at their wooden desks with pens and pencils. By their side, the sweet sound of voices filling the room, brought music to my ears. I decide to listen in on Brittney's conversation with Ella.
"OMG, last night I reached into my bag to get out my book and it wasn’t there!" explained Brittney.
"No way," replied Ella, "That exact thing happened to me, I was sure I put it into my bag."
This is a little strange I thought to myself why were things disappearing.

Eventually the bell went and it was time to go home. I told my mum what I had witnessed at school, and she was lost for words that night I couldn't get Brittney and Ella's conversation out of my head. I grabbed my laptop out of my bag to google this mystery as I unzipped the case I looked down only to see that there was no laptop in my bag, this is insane I decided to look in my other pocket of my bag and to my surprise my lunch box was also missing.

The sun was shining, birds singing, it seemed like an ordinary day. I walked into my class that is usually full of colour but, not today. My class looked like a prison cell.
"What happened!" I gasped.
"Don't worry kids," assured Miss Green, "We have a thief in our class and I am going to get to the bottom of this one by one!"
Miss green started checking our bags. Everyone seemed relaxed except for James. Miss green made her way down the line and James was last to be checked.
"Oh," said Miss Green, looking rather lost.
"What is this?" she asked James, as she pulled out two books, a pencil case, my laptop and two class posters from James's bag.

I was utterly shocked to say the least.
"I am so sorry," cried James. "Its just that everyone has laptops or books and our class is so colourful, that I wanted to take some of it home to make my house look better.
"The truth is that you should be happy with what you have and not want stuff from other people."

Punctuating a story

It was a Monday morning. I just got woken up by my mum to get ready for school. I got out of bed and reached down for my uniform but, it wasn't there. I looked under my bed, under my pillows but I couldn't find my uniform anywhere.
"Kaidin have you gotten in the shower yet?"
"No mum I cant find my uniform."
"Well you better find it quick or, you will be going to school in your onesie!"
"But mum I cant find it anywhere it’s like its just disappeared."
"Oh sure just like all your other stuff huh Kaidin?"
"I got a note to go to school with to say that my uniform is lost and that I have to wear mufti just for today." Which was a pain because every teacher I walked past asked why I'm in mufti and where my uniform is so, I just showed them the note and moved on.

When I got home I went to go grab my iPod from where I always put it but I looked and that wasn't there either! I yelled out to my mum
"Mum have you seen my iPod?"
"No but do you know where did you last put it?"
"Mum if i knew where i last put it do you think id be asking you where it is?"
"Sorry just trying to help." I thought to myself that ill try to find it later, so I run into my room to go on my PS3 but, surprise surprise it’s not there.
"Mum!"
"Oh what now Kaidin?"
"I know you're up to mischief tell me where all my stuff is!"
"Kaidin, do you really think I would hide your uniform away from you, so you would go to school in your onesise? Now what’s gone missing now?"
"My PS3 the whole thing, the controller is here but not my HDMI cable, power cord or my Elgato!"

They do this by, walking into other houses or they stand in assembly and they shout their voices out. Thirdly, they work academically together to reach the success criteria. They do this by, sharing ideas and discussing whether it is right or wrong and going through the instructions so they would understand together. Also when someones lost in their work they work with the student to get them on track. Therefore that is why Rimu is the best syndicate in TIS.

PEEL Paragraphs

Mr Diver is a successful principal because he is confident. Firstly he talks to his students and gets them involved in academic activities. He grabs random groups of students and test them on their general knowledge. Secondly he communicates with parents. He does this by grabbing parents on special events to congratulate of the child's success. Thirdly he makes up speeches on the spot. He does this to inform us on what is going to happen and what is happening. Finally He collaborates with the teachers to see how the students are doing and to test them on their subjects. MPP System in NZ

The MPP system is fairer than the FPP because each of the parties that have over 5% of votes, get a seat in parliament. You can also get in parliament if you get a MP seat. In the New Zealand MPP system you get 2 votes, one of them you get to choose the party you want and the other vote goes to the MP of the town that you are in. There are 120 seats in the New Zealand Parliament and if a party gets 30% of votes they get 30% of 120 seats in parliament.

Task:
Create dialogue for this image. Include taglines.

"Can you check my tongue again doctor," I crowed.
"Uh why do I have to do it?" he complained.
"Because you are the doctor!" he explained, "You are supposed to fix things and check if everything's alright!"
"Uh fine open wide," he dribbled.
The patient chameleon spat his long tongue out and it was almost touching the ground.
"Well there is definitely something wrong with that," the doctor said.
"What's wrong doctor?" the patient said.
"Well there seems to be some bumps on your tongue." the doctor informed.
"Oh dear!" The patient shouted as he slowly rolled his tongue back in.
"There is a way to fix it though!" he shouted.
"What do I have to do doctor?" he questioned.
"Well you would have to lick a mouldy branch like this for an hour," he answered.
"Ok I'll do that," he said, "Actually I have a branch like this at my house."
"That's good, so you go home and heal your tongue and call me if anything goes wrong."
"Ok doctor see you soon!" he shouted as he left the branch.
Then the doctor said to himself,"Lol, I am actually not a doctor, but I wonder if it actually gets better?"
The next week I see my patent with a mouldy tongue.

Losing my passport (fun story)

I have been in New Zealand for nearly a day now. I came here because it was much quieter and they had good schools here. I came here with my dad and mum and we live in a flash shack by the beach. When we got to our new house my passport got missing within my luggage and I still can't find it this very day. If I lost my passport that means I can't visit my family in England at the end of this year so it means so much to me that I find my passport! I know that it isn't at the airport because I was carrying my passport in my hand, so the only place it would be in is in the house. I looked in my room, my mom's room, the closet, the lounge but I still could not find it! I thought that maybe it was at the airport so I took a walk to the airport because it was only a 30 min walk and plus I didn't want to tell my parents, so I walked down and once I reached the airport and I could hear footsteps behind me. I keep walking and walking for a few mins and someone is still following me but, I quickly turn just looking at the corner of my eye and I saw a man in a business suit hiding a meter away behind me. So I quickly ran for my life and I could hear them running too I was running hard out it felt like I was going to get a stitch so I start to slow down but he started to catch up but... I stopped and turned around (which I shouldn't of done) and the business man came up to me and then said "excuse me lady why were you running away from me seriously well any way heres your passport, your name is Jane right." I nodded. "Good ok hopefully I will see you next time," he screamed with a skip in his step and there it is in my hand my passport.

Short Story

Today I have to right a story about a taxi an old enemy and Valentines Day.

One happy day I was walking across the street to get to the other side to get to the cinema. Then suddenly out from the open a taxi came speeding out and knocked me over! Once I got up I was trying to see who was in the car but I couldn't see. Then out came a Person that I thought I used to know and then I knew... It was my old enemy! We argued and screamed while standing on the road. Lots of honking lots of yelling and now everyone was angry because they couldn't go across the road. About now people were standing on their cars yelling and screaming at us even though, we were angrily fighting so we didn't notice. But suddenly out of the sky Valentine gifts came falling from the sky since it was Valentines day. The gifts were balloons, flowers, chocolate, cards and lots more. But apparently a card came flying down and gave my old enemy a paper cut! I was laughing and laughing and my enemy got scared and ran away. All the gifts falling from the sky made everyone smile and happy. Then people got in their cars fixed up with their mistakes and then it went back to a normal day. But incase you didn't notice I am a chicken so tell your children what actually happened when the chicken crossed the road.

End of term 2 review!

Start of term 2:
At the start of term two I had to get used to things since I was back at school although, I was really happy that I could see my friends again. I was abit happy because it was a nine week term but, we still had lots of things ahead of us. But one thing I didn't want to come up was Science Fair!

Science Fair:
Sooner or later my teacher says 11 days left! I haven't even done my experiments I was doing my experiments when I went home trying to finish very quickly. While that was happening the worse thing came to me I was sick! When I finished all of my experiments I had to print it all out. So I went to school the next day. Some of them thought I haven't done it because I was so ill too long. On the day Mrs C checks my science fair and she says "you're good to go!" It was 2 days left it was the weekends I glue everything on make sure it is all correct and handed it in on Monday.

Cross Country:
We all got to the the start then 3 2 1 GO! I was rushing through trying to catch up to my friend Josh but he was too far ahead. I ran the whole course and when I got to the end the teacher said good job Jeremy. But there was something wrong! I was gonna vomit! I quickly handed my card in having that thought in my head that Mrs Mills said to us, (if you are going to vomit on my shoes, you will have to lick them off!) Sian gave me water I gobbled it up I didn't care it felt like I splashed the whole thing on my face I didn't know. I quickly collapsed on the ground while Sian was saying "inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth." That really helped me and I felt alot better so SIAN SAVED THE DAY!

Maths:
I was really excited about math and it was my favourite subject. We were learning about graphs and data. I'm not really interested in it but I don't care it was still math. We learnt lots throughout the term like Box and whisker plots and Scatter plots and much more. Hopefully we are doing Geometry next term because thats my favourite maths subject because I want to become an architect.

Technology:
This term for technology I did music and science. I really liked music because we got to make ads and play musical instruments and lots more. It was really cool we got to do concerts and the people who played piano got to play on the modern piano. When it came to science I wasn't really excited but the one thing I was excited about we got a reliever plus the experiments are awesome! Our focus this week was energy.

Students in high school with long hair

Most students around New Zealand have mufti as their school uniform. Well some kids that have mufti as their uniform but students made their hair long and don't tie them up. A year 12 student Lucan Battison was suspended from the St Johns College's principal around last month for having long hair. The rule at that state was that the students hair must be out of their eyes and should be off their collar. So he tried different ways to not make his hair long like tying it into the bun but the school did not allow it but, what the school wanted him to do was to cut his hair. Around that week Lucan and his school got sent to court about this problem. After the court room was finished the St Johns College's principal was not happy about the decision the court made but what is going to happen now?

We are constantly being interrupted during class times. This is a problem.
Today I am going to come up with several possible solutions for this problem.

What kind of interruptions occur?
1. Intercom
2. Messenger
3. Phone
4. Internet

How does this affect us?
We are doing our work at our desk and when an interruption goes up we all

Social Experiment

What I think this video is going to be about:
Well the word in the title has the word social and what I know about the word social it means like you meet a group of people and you talk to each other and get to know each other and stuff like that. So I think part of this experiment has got to do with people around us.
Also it has the word experiment so what I know about this word is that maybe in this video they will try out to do something with the people in the environment.

Aim: √
The aim of this experiment is to find out what people feel when an anonymous person gives you a compliment.

Hypothesis:√
I think most people will feel shocked on what good thing that comes out of the speaker and most people would feel ashamed or angry when a insult comes out of the speakers.

Equipment: √
You will need:
- Speaker
- Wireless microphone
- Camera
- An anonymous voice.
- A Laptop

Method: √
Step 1: Connect the camera to your laptop and make sure it's turned on looking out to the place you are going to put the speakers.
Step 2: Set up your microphone to the speakers and make sure it works and that the speakers are turned on.
Step 3: Place your speakers the public area where the camera is.
Step 4: Once everything is in place it is time to start the experiment.
Step 5: Once someone comes right pass the speaker use your anonymous voice and give them a good compliment or a bad compliment.

Results: √
Most of the people which got a good compliment were shock and were feeling quite good about themselves. When it got to the insults the people felt furious and some of them swore or were looking at someone else and blame them on what the speaker said.

Conclusion: √
My hypothesis was correct because I said that the people that got an insult did look around and were furious. This experiment shows how people react to an anonymous comment.

Scam letter

On Thursday my teacher got a scam letter from Emily Park. Here is the link to the letter.
Link: Scam letter

What this letter is about:
So this letter is from Emily Park and it is to an Anonymous person and it is about someone who had lost US$75,00+ from scammers in Africa who talks to the FBI and meets a woman called Mrs. Maria Fernandez who gives back US$1,300,000.00 to Emily park. Then it says to participate to get the money you have lost or to give your money to be safe.

I've got 2 reasons this is a scam:

Reason 1: Emily Park's email changes throughout the letter.
Reason 2: I says she actually talked to the FBI about this but it is very unusual to talk to them unless someones murdered someone other you would go to court about this.

I have got 2 pieces of evidence that this is a scam:

First Emily Parks email changes,
so here is the first one,

Here is the second one.

Second it says

Mean median mode and range song

Mode, Median, Mean and Range
Mode, Median, Mean and Range

Don't you think these words sound strange?
Don't you think these words sound strange?

I will get your mind to change

Mode, Mode, Mu, Mu, Mu, Mode, Mode
Is the number that occurs occurs the most most
Singing Mode, Mode, Mu, Mu, Mu, Mode, Mode
Is the number that occurs occurs the most most
You got 1,2,2,3,3,3,4
1,2,2,3,3,3,4, which of those numbers did I say more?
which of those numbers did I say more? 3 is the mode cause it occurs the most
Mode, Mode, Mu, Mu, Mu, Mode, Mode
Is the number that occurs occurs the most most
Singing Mode, Mode, Mu, Mu, Mu, Mode, Mode
Is the number that occurs occurs the most most
You got 1,2,2,3,3,3,4
1,2,2,3,3,3,4, which of those numbers did I say more?
which of those numbers did I say more? 3 is the mode cause it occurs the most

Now stop, lets take it to the middle. Got to find the median no time to daddle diddle
Line up all the numbers from the smallest to the big and the ones thats in the middle does a media jig
Go median, middle number, go median, middle number

Now the third ones mean, not nice but mean
Its the average number if you know what I mean
Just add up all the numbers and divide them by the number of added
Whats that, whats mean?
You add up all the numbers and divide them by the number of added
Yeah you know what I mean
You add up all the numbers and divide them by the number of added

It's the average number, mean, its the average number
1 more round and the song is done
Lets talk about range and have some fun
It's the biggest number minus the smallest number, in the group, in the group
It's the biggest number minus the smallest number , in the group, in the group

You got Mode, Median, Mean and Range
Mode, Median, Mean and Range

Don't you think these words sound strange?

Science behind a glow stick

What I think now: I predict that when you snap the glow stick the plastic makes a small explosion of bubbles and the chemical inside get attracted and then it starts to glow.

What I think now after hearing other ideas: Inside the glow stick I think there is something solid like glass with a chemical inside and when the glass snaps the chemical attracts and mixes so it will make it glow.

What I think now after seeing what happens: After I saw what happens behind the scenes of a glow stick, I found out there really is a glass tube behind it with chemicals and when you break the glass you mix it round thats why you have to shake the tube and then it starts to glow up.

What I think now after researching: So inside the plastic tube (not the inside tube)  is Phenyl Oxalate Ester and also Fluorescent Dye Solution outside the glass vein (which is the small glass tube inside the plastic tube) And inside the glass vein...

Synthesis is when you find something new and you experiment and research to improve your knowledge.

Math (Sampling)

Yesterday for maths we learnt all about sampling. We learnt why we do it and how to do it and we learnt lots more. So today I am going to talk to you about samples.

There are three types of samples Random Sampling, Systematic Sampling and Striated Sampling.
There are also two types of Random Sampling, there is Drawing out of a hat and using a Ran on a calculator.

- what is a sample? A sample is to take a bit from the population.

- why take a sample? A sample is safer quicker and easier.

- what are some examples of sampling done in real life? There is lots of sampling done in real life they use it in Hospitals, Science labs, Restaurants and many more places.

- what does the word ‘population’ mean? A population means taking the whole group from the topic.

- how can you tell if are you sampling the right population? You can tell by looking at the statement and you take the whole group that you can see in the statement and then you should be sure that you are taking the right population.
